Czech Christmas Beer

Written by cd on December 20, 2007 – 7:00 am -

Czechs do take their beer seriously; they even cook up a special kind of beer for this holiday and organize Christmas Beer Markets.

Occasionally called svte?n piva (holiday beers), Christmas beers are brewed at higher gravities than standard Czech lagers, generally starting at 13 and heading north fast, resulting in slightly (or much) higher alcohol than normal. (Its cold here, people we need something to get the blood going.) Unfortunately, these are almost always limited editions and can be very difficult to find, either on tap or in bottles.

Beer for Menopause Women

Written by cd on June 15, 2007 – 4:36 pm -

Czech scientists are cooking up a plan to create a brand new beer for menopause women.

Oestrogen levels drop significantly in women at the onset of the menopause and remain low from then on. Studies have linked a lack of the hormone to increased risk of various health problems, including heart disease and osteoporosis.

While other countries cook up diets and exercise programs for, only the Czech Republic think of making beer for their women.

Czech women lack oestrogen in their diet, so we wanted to solve this through beer because the Czech Republic is number one in the world for beer consumption,” Karel Kosar, managing director of the brewing research institute, told Cee-FoodIndustry.com.
