Tábor

General Info | Historical Sights | Slideshow

Tábor is a city in the South Bohemian Region. It is founded in 1492 by the Hussites and named after Mount Tabor, which is believed by many to be the place of the Transfiguration of Christ. After the execution of the Catholic Church Reformer Jan Hus, the first Hussite community was established there. For years this city served as the cradle of the radical Hussite Movement against the Catholic Church. Jan Zizka, Tábor's legend , led the Táborites and defeated outside forces until 1452. Staying true to past spirit, this town claims to have the smallest percentage of Catholics in the country.
