Alfonso Mucha (1860-1939) was a Moravian painter and decorative artist. At 17, he left to Vienna to work for a design company. He return to Czech three year later and took on freelance, portrait and mural painting. Mucha left Czech again to Paris where he studied and worked for many years. There he started making advertising posters for theater and became famous for his exquisite art.

Mucha was a founding father of the Art Nouveau movement. . His Art Nouveau styled work range from advertisements, paintings, posters, book illustrations and interior and jewelry designs. Typical theme in Mucha's painting is pretty, young women, in colorful, beautiful robes and surrounded by similar decorative background.

Mucha Museum

The Mucha Museum features the Art Nouveau work of Czech artist Alphons Mucha while he was living in France: paintings, photographs and drawings. This little museum is filled with colorful, pretty and inspiring Mucha's work. It's located two blocks off Wenceslas Square.
