Bata Shoes - Preapred to Be Swept off Your Feet
Written by cd on April 2, 2007 – 12:53 pm -
Bata is an international shoe company found by Thomas Bata in the Czech Republic in 19xx. After returning from America, Bata introduced the America’s car assembly style to his shoe production. This smart move quickly expand his business, however put him in direct conflict with traditional shoemakers who only produce shoes on demand.
Being a savvy capitalist, Bata was also a great philanthropist; he introduced many social benefits to his employees which not seen at the time, which were housing and health care. If you go to Zlin, a city central Moravia, will see the former Bata’s neighborhood.
Bata Company was moved to Canada after the Communist took over the country in 1948. Currently, Bata is still a family-owned company with stores and factories all over the world.
All my shoes have never pass the $30 price tag except for two occasions. But I may make another exception at this time. By the time I leave the Czech Republic, I should own a pair of Bata shoes.

Profile - Radio Free Europe
Written by cd on March 26, 2007 – 7:59 am -
Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty is an American Congress funded communication organization based in Prague, the Czech Republic, delivering news from most non-EU countries in Europe.
…countries are struggling to overcome autocratic institutions, violations of human rights, centralized economies, ethnic and religious hostilities, regional conflicts, and controlled media. Stability — based on democracy and free-market economies — throughout this region is essential to global peace.
I discovered this website when looking for a job in Prague. There aren’t too many vacancies, and the internship is unpaid. However, job-seekers with journalism experiences and technical skills might find suitable positions. (http://www.rferl.org/about/jobs/)

DHL, The Yellow Messenger
Written by cd on February 21, 2007 – 6:49 pm -DHL is an international corporation which provides shipping of documents and freights.
The company was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn; the initials D, H & L of the founders’ last names form the company name. The trio initially provided a courier service between the mainland U.S. and Hawaii and expanded the business from there. In 1998, Deutsche Post began to acquire shares in DHL, finally reached majority ownership in 2001, and completed the purchase in 2002. In the UK, Deutsche Post also acquired Securicor Omega.
If you never heard about DHL or used its services, think UPS and FedEx.
In 2004, DHL opened a new IT Services Centre in Prague after closing down its IT support center in the UK for the following reasons: [link]
- Cutting cost - This is no puzzle right? How can Czech ever compare with the UK in term of the cost of living and doing business? IT Czech workers are paid much lower than their counterparts in UK. Czech is said to be the India of Europe.
- Compared to other developing (Eastern) countries, Czech offers more English-speaking people. Slovenia and Latvia were ruled out for this reason.
You might also want to check out this article, not for the article itself but for the many interesting comments, some of which are claimed to be from DHL’s staff.
I heard that they often recruit new people. So if you’re looking for an IT job, you might as well check them out.
Visit DHL at www.dhl.cz
To send a parcel aboard, go to a DHL office.
