Groceries and Department Store Comparison
Written by cd on March 1, 2007 – 6:36 am -So even if you’re a tourist, you don’t always eat out at fancy restaurant and drink at expensive pubs. You might stay longer and want to do some grocery shopping or buy personal items.
There are many grocery and department chains in the Czech Republic and carry almost similar items. Prices for these items are not difference by much, but if you do bulk shopping, you can save at cheaper stores.
- Penny, Lidl and Plus: Hard-discount grocery stores. Have few items and focus on low-prices.
- Tesco, HyperNova and Globus: Department stores. Have more options than those in #1. Items are available in all price levels.
- Billa and SuperBilla: Mixture of Tesco and Albert. Hard to describe them.
- Albert: Smaller grocery store. Probably the most expensive.

Free Shuttle Bus to Ski Resorts at Krkonose
Written by cd on February 26, 2007 – 7:06 am -
Hey budget skiers, be happy. There is a free shuttle bus to Krkonoše resorts which scheduled to leave several times a day including weekend. The sudden generosity responds to the increasing competition in the skiing industry. More Czech skiers now go abroad to Austria, Slovakia, France or Italy for better slope conditions.
When I showed my friend, a local Czech, the free bus sign at Cerny Most, he shrugged his head. “Nah. They make money back on the day pass. It costs about 25 dollars per day.” This guy was planning for a trip to the Southern Alps of France.
For more information, visit www.ergis.cz/krkonose.
The free buses depart from Cerny Most, the end station of metro B, yellow line.

Fish in Czech are soooo expensive!
Written by cd on December 13, 2006 – 2:30 pm -
Fish are good. Fish are good for your health. Fish and many thing else.
But they are too expensive in Czech, a continental country.
I bought two bags of frozen fish, the cheapest kind, at Tesco, near Andel, last night. Before I left, I managed to hover around the fresh food stands to behold the lovely pricey fish.
