Know what to pay when riding on a taxi

czech taxiRecently a taxi driver in Prague tried to rip off a tourist as he demanded her to pay 128 KC ~= $6 for only 300 meter. Lucky for that woman, a Czech officer happened to be near by and pointed out the shady driver. In Czech, the maximum rate is 25 KC/kilometer, a little more than 1 dollar/km) although it might jump during holiday seasons.

J. and I paid 700 KC/$33 (we had a small discount) for a 30 km trip from Prague to Celakovice. It was even on Friday, past midnight.

So if you feel you’ve been ripped off, I guess you can battle it out with them. Make a scene on the street hoping for an accidental rescuer to come by.
